Once you have collected your breast milk, you need a way to store it. You can, of course leave it in the breastpump collection bottle, but if you plan to build up a stock of milk you might prefer to use the Medela Pump & Save Bags. For small babies, the small (80cc) bottles might be an option to store milk in small quantites. This page lists both bottles, individually and in sets, as well as collection bags and other options that can be used to collect and store breastmilk.

All Medela products that include bottle nipples contain wide base nipples. This nipple, introduced in 2009, is softer than previous nipples, and the shape better mimics the nursing experience for baby. The wide base nipple works with any Medela bottle, old and new styles, to use the bottle to feed your baby. However, because of the wide base on the nipple it must be used with the collar for wide based nipples, and the new cap for wide based nipples. It will not combine with the old design collars, or caps. The old style nipples are no longer in production but there are a few old design products still available for sale.
Medela has changed the look of there bottles each year for the last four years. However, they all have the same universal thread so can be interchanged with one another. Medela bottles from older bottle sets and pumps will work with the new wide base nipples, wide base collars, wide base discs, and wide base caps.

Each collection bottle provided in the Pump In Style breastpump consists of a bottle and solid lid. Instead of a solid lid, a bottle collar and nipple can be used, so you can feed the baby direct from the bottle. A bottle cap will cover the nipple unit for storage. In addition a bottle disc is available. This seals the bottle when a bottle collar is being used, and the nipple is removed.
The old style (2008) Medela bottle parts shown - nipple, collar, disc, and cap are interchangeable with one another, and with older bottle parts, but are NOT interchangeable with the wide base Medela nipple, wide base collar, wide base disc, and wide base cap shown above. However, all Medela bottles and solid bottle lids are interchangeable and have a universal thread.

All Medela breast pumps come with at least one collection bottle. All Medela bottles have a universal thread and are completely interchangeable, as are the solid lids.

Medela has now redesigned their Pump and Save Bags. These new style disposable collection, storage, freezer bags work with any Medela pump including the Freestyle Breastpump. The new bags are leak proof and have an easy to close zipper top. These collection, storage, freezer bags are made of a special plastic that retains the breastmilk's beneficial properties, are double-walled for long and safe breastmilk storage, and are pre-sterilized for your immediate use.
