This is Medela's top of the line hospital grade breastpump. The Medela Symphony Breast Pump features Medela's 2-Phase Pumping technology for maximum milk flow and comfort.
Babies suck rapidly when put to the breast in order to induce the breast milk "let-down". The pump simulates this rapid sucking in its "Stimulation" setting. Once let-down has occured babies change their sucking pattern to longer slower sucks. The pump simulates this in the "Expression" phase. Thus, the 2-phase pumping technology promotes both effective letdown and expression.
The Symphony breast pumps 2-phase pumping program has two options --
Automatic -- the stimulation phase automatically changes to the expression phase after two minutes
or
Individual -- If milk let-down occurs before two minutes, you can press a button to change to the expression phase at that time

Each mom that uses the pump will need to use her own Medela Symphony Pumping accessories - These are provided in the Symphony Double Pumping System which can be purchased on this page. A carrying case is also available for purchase - you may want to consider this item if you plan to travel and take your Symphony Breast Pump with you.

The Medela Symphony Breast Pump Plus is exactly the same pump as the Medela Symphony except that it is equipped with two internal rechargeable batteries. It uses all the same pump accessories, and has the same three year warranty.

PersonalFit breastshields are purchased in pairs, and are available in five sizes - small, 21mm; medium, 24mm; large, 27mm; extra large, 30mm; and XX Large, 36mm. Breastshield connectors provide a four way connection between the breastshield, the pump tubing, the pale yellow valve and white membrane, and the collection bottle.At the base of each breastshield connector is a yellow valve, with a white membrane. The pump will not function without this attachment. Many women like to keep extra supplies of these, particularly the white membranes.
The five ounce (150cc) collection bottles is the most common size used by moms. Bottles are also available in the 80cc nursery size, and the newer large 250CC size. For indivual bottle parts (including nipples, collars, and caps) and other bottle sets, scroll down to the Bottle Parts section.

If you do not have access to an electric outlet, you can still use your Symphony Breastpump. Use this vehicle lighter adapter to power your pump using your cigarette lighter in your car. It is very easy to use -- just like an extension cord. One end plugs into your pump, and the other end plugs into your cigarette lighter. This vehicle lighter adapter will not work with other Medela pumps.

These collection, storage, freezer bags are made of a special plastic that retains the breastmilk's beneficial properties, are double-walled for long and safe breastmilk storage, and are pre-sterilized for your immediate use.
